Exploring God’s Word with Brad Thurston

Who then can be saved?

Episode Summary

Luke 18:35-19:10 It is about the questions, not the adjectives in Luke 18. The real question here is in 18:6 – Who then, can be saved? It is interesting to note how the leaders phrase their question to Jesus. They appear to be successful in life, but lack true peace or joy. The lawyer in Luke 10 still wonders who his neighbor is while the rich ruler leaves in sorrow, clinging to his possessions. But in this text we see both a poor man and a rich man experience the salvation of God! Jesus answers the question the disciples pose in two different ways: by revealing the purpose of his death and resurrection, and demonstrating in the lives of two people in Jericho that salvation is based on faith and receiving Christ. The result is not simply an individual experience, but it affects the entire community!
